What is Powder Coating

Powder coating produces a highly durable coating which is relatively hard, abrasion resistant (depending on the specification) and capable of being applied in a wide variety of color options.  Powder coating is a superior finish for metal substrates however applications can be made on a variety of other materials also.  In fact, powder coated products are everywhere—in your home, office, shopping malls, automobiles, stadiums and playgrounds and in countless architectural applications.  Regardless of the product or use, you can always count on powder coating to deliver a superior finish.

Powder coating is a dry finishing process that has become extremely popular since its introduction in North America over 40 years ago.   More and more companies specify powder coatings for a high-quality, durable finish, allowing for maximized production, improved efficiencies, and environmental compliance.

How Powder Coating Works
Powder coatings are based on polymer resin systems, combined with curatives, pigments, leveling agents, flow modifiers, and other additives.  These ingredients are mixed then ground together into a fine powder.  The powder is then sprayed electrostatically through a spray gun.  The particles are then attracted to the grounded part.  After application of the powder, the parts enter a curing oven where, with the addition of heat at specified time and temperature, causes the coating to eventually gel and harden.
